Quiet Time

Held Firm By God

Date: November 09, 2008

Read: I John 5:13-21

Parents instinctively hold on to their children to protect them from harm by others and from themselves. How often do we hear about a small child wanting to put keys or something sharp in to a light socket and are they happy when a parent pulls them away or tells them no they can't? No, the child really believes that the parent is not allowing them to have fun, they are not grateful but angry and upset. The parent becomes the enemy and then the child is waiting and hoping that the parent is not watching only to go back and do the same thing and they become a threat to their own life.

God holds us firm in His hand and often we find ourselves a lot like this child, angry and upset and see God as our enemy because He has not allowed us to have in life what we think is best for us. Our light socket could be so many things such as the person we thought we should marry, a career choice, a new home, a new car, better health, whatever. When God doesn't allow something in our life it is always to protect us because He knows something about that choice that we don't, just like the parent knows the child can be harmed, God knows we could be harmed too.

I pray that the life experience you have not chosen for yourself helps you to see that you are held firm by God, your loving Heavenly Father!
